We have been co-sleeping with Emma since she was born. Although she had a perfectly wonderful and beautiful crib that Busia and Paw bought for her she refused to sleep in it, crying hysterically until she would vomit making everyone upset. Plus she was breastfeeding and mama and baby just slept better together. So, for 2 1/2 years we had a family bed. Around Thanksgiving time, we converted her crib into a toddler bed and she slept in it for a few nights for a few hours here and there, but nothing serious. Then we had the huge ice storm with the power outage and it was back into our bed she came. Like I said, we were offered a toddler bed with lower sides than her converted bed, so we decided to give it a try thinking it wouldn't hurt. We let her pick out new sheets/bedding and she eagerly picked out Tinkerbell sheets and a blanket.
On the way to pick up the bed, we stopped to buy the new bedding and she could barely contain her excitement. Well she just about popped out of her skin when we got to M's house for the bed. What M's mom failed to mention to me was that it was a light purple disney princess bed (the headboard and footboard are light purple with pictures of the princesses on them). Man alive! I thought that Emma was going to have a toddler sized heart attack. We drove home with the bed taking up half of the car and Emma refusing to take her hand off of the bed the whole way there. She couldn't wait to get it upstairs and in her room. That night (Tuesday), with clean sheets and her Tinkerbell pillow from Busia, she climbed into bed and slept until 6:45 the next morning when I had to wake her up to get her ready for daycare! Since then she has slept in her Tinkerbell bed (as she calls it) every night without any incidences. No wandering out of it in the middle of the night and no wanting to climb in bed with mommy and daddy in the middle of the night. Our little girl is definitely growing up.
