It's Twins!

On Wednesday morning before leaving for work and daycare, I commented to Bill that i was getting concerned about Emma's chrysalis' and the fact that the butterflies hadn't emerged yet. Since we didn't know exactly when they had formed I wasn't sure how long they had been "hanging around" but I knew that we were approaching the 14 day mark very soon. Well when we got home on Wednesday afternoon and did our daily check this is what we found......

Our first butterfly! We were so excited! It had clearly just happened not long ago as it wings were still wet and shaking and the red puddle of wing dye on the paper towel was still wet as well.

The sceond chrysalis had changed color from that morning and was no longer a gold yellow color. It was now a very dark brown color and you could see the markings of the wings through the chrysalis. We knew that our second butterfly would be emerging soon we just didn't know when. We kept checking on it throughout the evening, but nothing happened before Emma and I went to bed. But before Bill went to bed he was able to snap this picture....

Our second butterfly had JUST emerged! In the morning Emma was so excited to see both of her butterflies flying around in their little home and she kept saying they were beautiful. She helped make them a sugar water mixture to feed them and then insisted that they wanted to watch Curious George with her.

It is amazing that 3 weeks ago they were these tiny little caterpillars and now we have 2 gorgeous painted lady caterpillars. Tomorrow is supposed to be 74 and sunny, so we are planning on taking them to our favorite park to release them.
