The British Are Coming! Part II

Although Emma talked non-stop about the British and their redcoats all the into Concord, by the time we came face-to-face with one of them, she was very shy, but willing to have her picture taken with him, as long as I sat with her. As groups of British soldiers marched passed us throughout the morning, Emma would eagerly shout, "The British are coming!" resulting in giggles and smiles from people around us. Paw and Uncle Pat would be proud to know that Emma now knows that they used muskets and cannons make a "big boom."

In the gift shop at the Minute Man National Park, we tried to talk Emma into buying a colonial tricorn hat, but she had her eyes set on a stuffed Paul Revere doll and a metal cannon. While walking back to the car, Emma proudly told us that the British told Paul to "STOP!" when they saw him and "he did this" (she put her hands/arms up in the air). She will tell you that his horse was named Brown Booty (really Brown Beauty).

Does she understand WHAT the Revolutionary War was about? No

Does she understand WHAT Paul Revere's role was? No

But I like knowing that she has been exposed to these pieces of history and these names and bits of information are now familiar to her. Hopefully her Paw's and uncle's love for history has been instilled in her and she will continue to be interested in this subject.
