Another History Lesson

Yesterday, Emma got another history lesson as we met up with Dan & Elisabeth to go and tour the Adams National Historical Park. We talked a little bit about John and Abigail (Abby) Adams a couple days leading up to our adventure so Emma knew a little bit about them, mainly that they lived a long long time ago, they don't live here anymore, John was president just like Obama is now, his wife's name was Abby, and they were friends with Paul Re-beer (Revere). She was excited that we were going to take a "trolley bus" to get to the different houses that they lived in. We were a little nervous because the tours of the houses are guided tours and everything is "DO NOT TOUCH!" But we thought we would give it a try anyhow. She did very well during the 2 hour tour until about the last 20 minutes or so. By then she was tired, hot, and hungry. The tour guide in the last house - the Old House at Peace Field (where John Adams died) was a tour guide nazi and got upset if you even breathed too close to something so it was extra tough. but Emma was a trooper with her Abigail Adams doll.

She got to see where John Adams was born, where he and Abigail lived, where John Quincy was born, where Abigail cooked/her kitchen, and the house where the Adams lived their remaining years. We got to see John Adams actual copy of the Declaration of Independence, their original dining room table, Abigail's tea set, a rose bush that Abigail had planted (the original one from the late 1700's!), and their library which houses thousands of John Adams original copies of books. It was so amazing! Emma thought it was very neat that she got to see Abby's kitchen and her bedroom. And just in case anyone was wondering - John and Abigail did NOT have a Tinker Bell bed (Emma pointed that out on the tour).

We then got to spend the rest of the afternoon playing with Milo (Emma's god-dog) and spending time with Dan and Elisabeth - which Emma always enjoys.
