4 years ago today, February 20, 2006, the journey to start a family was still underway. We had gotten a phone call late the night before telling us the bad news and the good news. The bad news - only 2 viable eggs were retrieved during the egg retrieval a few days earlier. Only 2. That wasn't good news. Most women get in the double digits with more than enough left over to freeze for later procedures. We were not going to have that option. The good news is that were had responded well to the
ICSI and
assisted hatching procedures and so far, the embryos were being graded as very good. We were told to come back to RSC in Lexington on the 20th (4 years ago today) for the
embryo transfer.
So, 4 years ago today, February 20, 2006, we went back to the pre-op room, I drank what seemed like 10 gallons of gatorade and we waited. A couple of hours later we left. We headed home with a little hope, a lot of nervousness, and some fear. While we had been there, those 2 viable embryos had been transfered from their little lab dish into my body. And now we were supposed to wait. We were good at waiting. We had been doing it for over 2 years already.
Here are the 2 embryos that were transfered. The only 2 viable embryos from that whole ordeal.
