Letters and Writing and Spelling,Oh My!

A couple of weeks ago I posted about the handwriting program that Emma's school has adopted. Over the past couple of weeks, Emma's interest in writing, letters, and spelling has just sky rocketed. She is particularly interested in her own name, writing it on everything (including the arm of the couch!). If you pick up a piece of paper that is on the counter or the table in the living room, chances are she has either written her name, or the letter "E" on it. In the car, her travel magna-doodle that she got for Christmas has been getting more use than it has in the last 10 months combined and the same goes for her full-sized magna-doodle here in the house. If I am addressing an envelope, she wants to do it and asks how to spell the name. The other day we were sending mail to Busia and Paw and she asked how to spell their names so that she could write on the envelopes. I bet they were surprised when they opened up their mail and saw that Emma had written on the envelope and not me!

On Wednesday at school, Emma and her buddy Emily decided that Peep, the classroom guinea pig, needed a name card on his cage. Emma asked Jennie how to spell Peep's name and then proudly presented Jennie and Sam with this:

All by herself, she made a sign for Peep's cage complete with a portrait of Peep! The sign has now been laminated and has been affixed to Peep's cage for the remainder of the year (along side the one that Emily made as well!). I didn't even know that she knew how to make the letter "P!"
