If you ask Emma who her boyfriend is she will proudly answer, "Kyle Busch!" Kyle Busch drives the #18 car in the Nascar series and is sponsored by M&Ms/Mars, so his car has M&Ms all over. What kid wouldn't have a crush on him, right? This crush started last year when Emma's favorite candy was M&Ms. Bill was flipping through the channels on the TV and Emma yelled out, "M&Ms!!" Sure enough, there were M&Ms on the TV. To be more precise, they were on a car that was speeding around the track. It was live coverage of a Nascar race. Niether Bill nor myself were racing fans, but Emma was infatuated with this candy covered car so we watched for a little while. Little did we know what it was going to turn into.
Bill and I ended up actually getting interested in Nascar and watching the races on TV and Emma became more and more interested in the M&M car and its driver. She quickly learned the name of the guy who drove the car and this season started calling him her boyfriend. Wal-mart is a huge supporter of Nascar and sells lots of Nascar products, so while we are there she is always on the lookout for Kyle Busch products in the toy section and automotive section of the store. If she sees a commercial during a race weekend, she screams like, well....like a little girl. She has a small #18 matchbox car that only SHE is allowed to play with (will not let anyone else touch it) and gets upset if I tease her that Kyle is my boyfriend (she quickly reminds me that my boyfriend is #99 Carl Edwards or #9 Kasey Kahne and NOT Kyle Busch). It is all kind of amusing.
Never in a million years did I imagine us watching Nascar as a family while my 2 1/2 year crushes on the driver with the candy car and the worst attitude, but we have fun.
