It was on this day in 1776 that the wording for the Declaration of Independence was adopted and sent off to the printer. Emma's version of the D of I is this: "They wrote a letter to King George and said we don't like your rules. We want our own rules." As elegant and professional as the original sounds, Emma's is so much easier to remember and would have taken a lot less time at the printer's - don't you think?
Last night, the rain held off long enough for the 'Burg to get off their fireworks display. We were able to hang out on our second floor porch/balcony and see the whole thing. Emma's first 4th of July, we didn't go to the fireworks in the area and last year she slept through them while we were at the Maresso's cottage, so we didn't know what she was going think of them. She held her hands over her ears for the first few and then got brave and took her hands down ("Look! No hands!") and she LOVED them! She oohed and ahhed right on cue and we thought that some of them looked like Tinkerbell up in the sky! She was not happy when they were over and even when we went inside, she kept looking out the window hoping to see some more. Surrounding towns have their fireworks tonight, so we are going to go see some more!
This morning with the sun shining for the second day in a row, we headed out to the town parade. We got great curbside seats and had a wonderful time. Emma looked very patriotic waving her flag, dressed in her red, white & blue gear. We stayed at the parade for 2 hours and when we left it was STILL going on! That is one long parade!
