This year, Memorial Day played a little bit of a different role for us as we currently have a very dear friend finishing up his 2nd tour of duty over in Iraq. We spend our weekends (and some weeknights) playing with his wife and his 2 gorgeous children while Sgt. Doroski is spends his days training Iraqi soldiers in the middle of a war zone. Along with his family, we are patiently counting down the days when he is back in the states eating dinner with his family, driving his kids to school, and just being HOME! Since getting to know his family, Emma has become enthralled with soldiers and their lives, their clothes, their vehicles, well....soldiers. She points out men and women in uniform wherever we go and has on more than one occasion, shared with me that she wants to be a soldier when she grows up. But NOT a soldier like Paul (D.). She wants to be a soldier and stay at home, not go far away to Iraq. She doesn't quite get the "you go where you are told" when you are a soldier :o).
Anyhow...Emma was very proud to wear her red, white, and blue to school for their Memorial Day asssembly and as her class discussed what Memorial Day was and why we recognize the importance of the day, Emma eagerly shared with her class that she knew a soldier and he was working in Iraq right now. She practiced singing "God Bless America" for over a week and was excited that her class had the honor of holding the American flag at the school assembly. She sang loud and proud so that the soldiers could hear her all the way in Iraq (her words). She is one proud American!
