New York City

The quilters in the Aqua Room were at it again this year.  If you recall, last April, we traveled to Philadelphia to deliver the Peace Quilt to the National Liberty Museum after the children and their beloved Milly worked for months and months to design and construct the beautiful quilt that is now on permanent display at that museum depicting what they see and feel peace to be.  Well this year, the children in the Aqua Room became extremely fond of the song "God Bless America" singing it every change they got, serenading classrooms with it, singing it for soldiers that they invited to the school, creating a their own book about it, and slowly it turned into another quilting project.  Enter...Milly.  Together the class and Milly designed and made the most amazing, breathtaking quilt.  What was going to be done with this quilt?  Long story short.....we were invited to NYC to show off the quilt at the USS Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum and the kids were asked to sing and show their book.  From there the kids would deliver the quilt to the Massachusetts Fisher House where the quilt would then make its way to the Fisher House Foundation headquarters in Rockville, Maryland for permanent residence.  The Fisher House Foundation "provides a "home away from home" for military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury".  However, the staff at the Fisher House in Massachusetts LOVED the quilt so much that it has remained here in Massachusetts.


Emma and I made the trip to the NYC with a few friends and spent the day exploring the city after the museum.

 This is the picture of the Statue of Liberty that Emma drew for the class book.  Milly then traced it onto the quilt and stitched it, so that it is now a part of the quilt!
